I don't suppose anyone has (successfully) built a cnc router from a kit have they? I have just returned to mine (started building it some years ago then dismantled it to move) and still can't get the x-axis drive to work.
It was one of the drivers, Trevor. Fortunately there are 4 identical chips that plug in so it's easy to swap them to establish whether the fault is in the chip or the pcb - I was unlucky enough to have faults in both, though I suspect the pcb fault caused the chip fault. I now have a spare chip with heat sink fixed in place ready for the next failure.
Some good news - after much squinting and testing it seemed the circuit board was incomplete in two places so I added strapper wires and that problem was solved. Unfortunately, 1 of the 4 motor drivers appears faulty so awaiting a new one. Hopefully will soon be able to make something with it!
Well done Brian! What was the issue?
At last, 5 years after starting to assemble the kit, it now works. Just have to learn how to drive it now!
